An object made from a single large-sized rock that has been excavated and transformed by man.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.piramide-etrusca.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/18136728_10203099141195186_870509754_n-e1538299421612.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-806\" src=\"http:\/\/www.piramide-etrusca.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/18136728_10203099141195186_870509754_n-200x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This area of \u200b\u200bTuscia was formed by the last eruptions of the great volcanoes, such as Cimino, whose legacy has remained in the lakes and in the rocks of peperino and tuff. In this area, in the woods there are large rocks of peperino launched by the eruption of volcanoes. Some of these have been excavated and used as dwellings since the protohistoric period, and until recently, have been shelters of shepherds.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.piramide-etrusca.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/17797078_10212316042006240_1022606650_o-e1538299489253.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-801\" src=\"http:\/\/www.piramide-etrusca.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/17797078_10212316042006240_1022606650_o-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>But one of these boulders has a different story still shrouded in mystery.<\/p>\n<p>In the middle of the woods in the area \u201cTacchiolo\u201d near\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/discoverplaces.travel\/guide\/guide-of-bomarzo\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Bomarzo<\/strong><\/a>,\u00a0<strong>in 1991 a large boulder<\/strong>\u00a0(about 8 x 16 meters)\u00a0<strong>was discovered<\/strong>\u00a0in the shape of a truncated pyramid which in some aspects recalls those of the Maya. The episode had passed quietly until<strong>\u00a0in 2008, Salvatore Fosci cleaned it<\/strong>\u00a0up and brought it into the spotlight to present it to everyone.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/visitbomarzo.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/17779091_10212316048766409_1790590516_o.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-803\" src=\"http:\/\/www.piramide-etrusca.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/17779091_10212316048766409_1790590516_o-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>On the ridge of the boulder,\u00a0<strong>28 steps were cut leading to<\/strong>\u00a0two intermediate altars and\u00a0<strong>then to the main altar<\/strong>\u00a0at the top of the pyramid. The structure is completed with other smaller steps. There are also a series of channels that were to be used for the collection of liquids poured during the sacrificial rites.<\/p>\n<p>The Etruscan pyramid of Bomarzo is\u00a0<strong>the largest rock altar in Europe<\/strong>, a huge tufa rock used as a place of worship for sure since the time of the Etruscans between the seventh and sixth centuries BC.<\/p>\n<p>There is no certainty whether it is antecedent even to that time.<\/p>\n<p>Because of this function, some call it \u2018Sasso del Predicatore\u2019 (rock of the preacher), but this name dates back to the period before its cleaning. The peculiarity is to see the photos taken from above, where the pyramid looks like a face.<\/p>\n<p>When Salvatore met this rock he must have felt like those explorers who discover temples and houses in the jungle.
